Ultrasonographic Diagnosis and Monitoring of Treatment for Deep Vein Thrombosis of the Lower Extremities

Abstract


A survey and surgical treatment of 94 patients with deep vein thrombosis of the lower limbs were carried out. All patients underwent ultrasonography of the deep veins from the time of admission to day 90 of treatment (6 visits in total) in order to verify the diagnosis and to monitor the effectiveness of anticoagulant therapy. It was found that compression ultrasonography allowed with high probability to diagnose deep vein thrombosis: in 100 % of cases we have visualized a blood clot in a vein, preserving its lumen upon compression, the veins increase in diameter, swelling of perivascular fibers (48.6 %) and blurring of the contours of the vascular bundle (37.1 %). Ultrasonography allows you to set the duration of deep vein thrombosis before patient sought medical care and to conduct a differential diagnosis with pathologies with a similar clinical picture. It was determined that rapid restoration of venous hemodynamics took place in patients with acute deep vein thrombosis.
